Job Description

Job Summary:

The Payroll Accountant and Analyst will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing and analysis. This position involves managing all aspects of payroll accounting, compliance, and reporting. The Payroll Accountant and Analyst will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support payroll-related initiatives and maintain compliance with payroll regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Payroll Processing:
    • Oversee the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring timely and accurate disbursement of employee salaries and benefits.
    • Validate and process payroll data, including timesheets, bonuses, deductions, and taxes.
    • Address employee payroll inquiries and resolve payroll-related issues.
  2. Payroll Accounting:
    • Reconcile payroll accounts and ensure accurate posting of payroll transactions.
    • Prepare and maintain payroll journals and general ledger entries.
    • Perform month-end and year-end payroll closing procedures.
  3. Compliance and Reporting:
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal payroll regulations and tax laws.
    • Prepare and file payroll tax returns and other statutory reports.
    • Keep abreast of changes in payroll regulations and implement necessary updates.
  4. Payroll Analysis:
    • Analyze payroll data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for process improvements.
    • Prepare payroll cost analysis and budget variance reports.
    • Assist in forecasting payroll expenses.
  5. Payroll System Management:
    • Manage and maintain the payroll software and related systems.
    • Collaborate with IT for system upgrades and enhancements.
    • Provide user support and training as needed.
  6. Audit Support:
    • Assist in internal and external payroll audits.
    • Provide documentation and support during audit processes.
    • Ensure audit findings are addressed and resolved promptly.
  7. Communication and Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with HR, finance, and other departments to streamline payroll processes and ensure data accuracy.
    • Communicate changes in payroll policies and procedures to employees.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of payroll regulations, tax laws, and accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data processing.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

Qualifications:

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification.
  • 3-5 years of experience in payroll accounting and analysis.
  • Strong understanding of payroll regulations and tax laws.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Excel and SAP.
